Sally Jean The Bicycle Queen

This is a wonderful picture book for boys and girls. Sally Jean loves to ride her bike, but when she outgrows her beloved bike, which she names Flash, she finds that her family doesn’t have enough money to buy her a new one.
This resourceful young girl then goes to work in a junkyard where she can help herself to any used parts she likes. She sets up a little business fixing bikes for other kids in her neighbourhood and eventually builds a bike of her own.
This book shows a girl being active, creative, and mechanical–a good role model for all children. Sally Jean’s refusal to give up and determination to solve her own problem offer excellent lessons for kids. As the cover shows, the illustrations exude happiness and show the sheer joy of riding a bike.
My five-year-old son loved this book and wanted to read it over and over again. Highly recommended.
