Orangutan Tongs
Orangutan Tongs by Jon Agee is recommended by Pam Allyn in her book Best Books for Boys.
This is a book I probably never would have found had it not been included in Ms. Allyn’s list. Although my children both love Seuss, I never think to look for books of poetry and funny rhymes.
Organgutan Tongs is a collection of silly tongue twisters, some more difficult than others. Here’s an example of one of the ones I struggled with. Try saying this out loud at a normal speaking pace:
Should you shove a surly soldier
In the surly soldier’s shoulder,
The surly soldier surely will turn red…
Or:
A box of mixed biscuits is always a treat.
Mixed biscuits are tasty! Mixed biscuits are sweet!
You offer mixed biscuits, and people will say:
“Mixed biscuits! Mixed biscuits! Mixed biscuits, hooray!”
This book is loads of fun to read aloud. My four-year-old and I laughed constantly as I fumbled through these funny rhymes.
