Some of the Research into Gender and Kids’s TV, Movies and Books
I have received some feedback from, shall we say, an interested party who resides with me. He indicated that my assessment of TV shows seemed to lack context. And he is right.
I thought that getting into some discussion of TV shows would be the natural next step for this blog, but now I see that some more background is needed.
The book I am writing contains all kinds of research into gender imbalance in children’s television, films and books. In future posts I will include some of it to provide a basis for my arguments.
Anyone who is interested can check two excellent online resources. The first is the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. The second is the International Central Institute for Youth and Educational Television, a German organization with a very long name that has, mercifully, been abbreviated to IZI. Check out their research pages – there is some very interesting reading here.
